Zac Efron covers the current issue of Nylon Guys magazine, where he talks about his new role in the upcoming movie Me and Orson Welles. In the film, he doesn't dance or sing -- a huge step in his transformation from Disney darling to legitimate actor. And it sounds like Zac is pleased with the progress. He says, "It’s the first time I’ve ever watched a movie [that I’m in] and in the end I’m like, 'OK! I didn’t check my watch once!'"
It's not as if Efron was ever dying to be a singer, he explains, but it just came naturally to him. He says:
So don't expect him to follow in Miley Cyrus' footsteps and release an album anytime soon. He takes a jab at the singers who do -- possibly including his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens? -- and says (of the necessity of celebrity albums), "If anyone asked themselves that, then we wouldn’t have the crap we are listening to today. If your heart’s not in it, don’t do it. And don’t do it for money. That’s my philosophy.
So say goodbye to the Zac Efron that made pre-teens swoon in High School Musical, because it sounds like he doesn't relate to that image at all anymore: "I try not to look at all of it. You can’t enjoy or celebrate it; it’s not a real thing. The face on the lunchbox and sh*t -- you can’t share that with your friends."
