Zac Efron was amazed by how “unbelievable” alligator was when he tasted it. The actor had to beef up for his role as a marine in The Lucky One. He ate an enormous amount to pack on muscle, but it wasn’t all bad. Zac was amazed to find he could still indulge in some junk food, such as pizza.

“That was actually the best part – as long as I was getting calories, I could kind of bend the rules, so in New Orleans, where we were shooting, we would go out for Creole,” he explained. “We had alligator, too. They put a delicious sweet sauce over it – it was unbelievable!”

Although he was happy to taste one of the water-based creatures, Zac isn’t so keen on coming face-to-face with them. That happened when he was shooting one of his upcoming releases and the encounter gave him the jitters for a whole day.

“I actually saw an alligator when I was filming The Paperboy. I was supposed to jump in this lake, but after we saw three of them, I couldn’t get back in for the rest of the day!” he laughed to Company magazine.

Geared up to cheer on the hometown squad, Zac Efron was spotted arriving to Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The former "High School Musical" hunk rocked his gold and purple Kobe Bryant t-shirt and matching cap as he headed inside to grab up a front row seat to take in Game Seven of the Western Conference Quarterfinals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets.

Not leaving disappointed, Efron intently watched the tightly contested hardwood contest as the Lakers ended up pulling out a 96-87 win to clinch the series 4-3. The weekend basketball outing comes as Zac is readying for a trip overseas - as he's expected to be joining co-star Nicole Kidman in southern France for the Cannes Film Festival premiere of their new movie "The Paperboy".

Zac Efron admits that he did enjoy the challenge of his new movie The Lucky One. The actor returned to the big screen this week as he took on the role of Marine who is trying to find his place in the world after returning from combat.

The movie is a big screen adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name and saw Efron team up with filmmaker Scott Hicks. And the actor admits that he was worried about the role at first but enjoyed the challenge that is posed.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "Initially, I wasn't convinced I could pull this off, but the more I thought about it, and the more I talked to Scott, I realised if there was ever going to be a chance to play a role so different from what I've played before, this was it. "I knew that it would be a challenge, but that's where the fun comes in." Efron turns his hat to animation next as he lends his voice to Dr Seuss' The Lorax, a movie that has already enjoyed huge success at the U.S. box office.

Zac Efron recently revealed that he, himself has One Direction infection during a recent interview. The 24 year-old actor told 3AWRadio, “I know I’m freaking out. I need to go get in line,” when One Direction was brought up during his Lucky One press junket.

Zac offered the guys some advice on fame saying, ” I don’t think they need my advice, they know what they’re doing. Have fun, cherish the moment, keep your heads screwed on straight. They seem like smart guys, they know what they’re doing.”When asked, who do you mostly look up to or who do you want to work with, Zac’s response? “One Direction.”

Los Angeles: Actor Zac Efron says he did not cash in on his "High School Musical" success because he wanted to focus on his craft. "There were several avenues I could have gone down after `High School Musical`, but I looked at the long term," a website has quoted him as saying.

"I wanted to do this for a long time, so I wanted to make this transition slowly. It wasn`t so much about keeping the fans but about making sure I was able to focus on my craft and really take a step back, work hard, work with great directors and have a graceful transition," he said. "I didn`t cash in or take the easier route but really focused on learning as I grow. I`m still learning. I`m just very lucky," he said.

Zac Efron attended "The Lucky One" premiere in Berlin, Germany, yesterday rocking a colorful suit by George Clinton. Eschewing black, blue, or boring grey, the actor opted for a shade of purple that looked quite good on the red carpet. He was still wearing a bandage on his left hand. At the U.K. premiere of the film on Monday he jokingly said the injury was caused when a fan bit him.

The film, based on Nicholas Sparks' novel, debuted at number two at the box office last weekend, taking in $22.8 million. The film centers on a marine overseas who comes across a discarded photo of a beautiful woman. Upon returning home to civilian life, the soldier tracks her down and tries to win her heart.

Zac Efron took to the European premiere of his new film, The Lucky One, over the week where he talked about the new film and donned an injury on his left hand.

Us Weekly reports that the actor walked the red carpet looking ever-so-handsome in a suit, but wore a flesh colored bandage on his hand. When asked by British journalist Kirsteen O’Sullivan why he was wearing the bandage, he joked that “a fan bit” him. Sullivan later clarified the injury via Twitter, saying, “Zac Efron has finally arrived after a fruit related accident. Poor guy, he is really adorable!”

As to what fruit caused the injury, it is still unknown. Efron talked about director Scott Hicks’s ability to really capture a shot, referring to his "steamy" sex scene with costar Taylor Schilling. He explains, “We knew each other very well. [Director Scott Hicks] was very thoughtful. I knew he was going to shoot very well," the actor said. "From his past films, Scott is incredible with capturing those scenes.” He adds,"Everyone builds those things up. There's sort of a fear inherent in everyone else."

Guys, get jealous: Zac Efron is officially able to cross 'film a love scene with Nicole Kidman' off his bucket list. In fact, the 24-year-old Efron says filming the upcoming Paperboy with Kidman (who is 20 years his senior) has been a life-altering experience.

"It was everything you dreamed of," Efron tells Australia's Daybreak of filming with the Aussie-born married mom of two. "She was such a lovely person. I pinched myself every day, especially after doing love scenes with Nicole Kidman. Nicole is so gorgeous!"

Efron wasn't just enamored by Kidman's uh, assets. "Nicole was something else and was always in character," he told Daybreak. "She didn't get weird method, like some actors do, but I have never seen anyone so centered."The former High School Musical star -- who dated HSM costar Vanessa Hudgens and was linked to Mirror, Mirror's Lily Collins -- says he hopes his future wife will possess a drive similar to Kidman.

"[I hope my wife will have] a sense of ambition and a sense of freedom, which is a careful mix. You have to balance those two," argues the actor. "I haven't exactly found it yet."

They say a dog is man’s best friend, and Zac Efron took to his Twitter page to introduce his canine BFF to the world. The “High School Musical” stud posted a picture of his pooch pal along with the caption, “I’ve got a dog named Puppy. He’s an Australian Shepherd.”

He added, "Here's the photo of Puppy I promised earlier. It's from last Christmas morning. Hilarious! Cheers & thanks again!" It seems Zac has always loved dogs- back in 2005 he called them "crazy. They're always getting into some kind of trouble ... but then again, they're my most loyal friends."
